Swedish Taxpayers’ Association is running a campaign to cut the gas tax and dedicate this revenue to roads maintenance.

Swedish drivers are already heavily taxed as taxes represent almost two third of the price of a gas tank. Since the last government took office in 2014, the gas tax has been increased three times. But this doesn’t stop here, the new index which came into force in 2017 raises the tax automatically by CPI plus two percentage points.  A simple calculation shows that the price will increase by at least 49% during the next 10 years.

More on, Swedish drivers are already paying about 60 billion in taxes (gas taxes and vehicle tax), but only about 25 billion goes to maintain and renew the road infrastructure.
